Janice Ott disappeared on July 14, 1974 from Lake Sammamish. Witnesses heard Ott agree to help a man named “Ted” to load his boat onto his car due to a broken arm. Ott’s innocent willingness to help Bundy, whom she thought was injured, was the single most contributors to her death. Bundy wasn’t necessarily targeting Ott herself but women like her who was young, beautiful who was enjoying their day at the lake and would ultimately fall victim to his scheme. While normally sustaining a low to medium low risk level, Ott’s naiveté in helping a stranger when she was alone changed the dynamics of her risk continuum and she was suddenly a stranger of opportunity, at a high risk of victimization.
